External Referral Bonus Program Terms and Conditions


Eligibility - You must be an individual person and legal resident of the United States or Australia who is at least 18 years of age.

The following, if applicable, are not eligible for an external referral payment:

  • Outside vendors, agencies and/or business entities

  • Current SPA employees

  • Staffing/recruiting agencies (or their employees) and/or consultants

  • Self-referrals (i.e., you cannot refer yourself)

  • A candidate who has already been referred

  • A current applicant of SPA

  • Candidates currently in the SPA applicant tracking system

  • A recent or current contractor, temporary worker, or consultant of SPA

  • Does not otherwise meet the hiring or retention requirements set forth herein

Validity - Effective September 2022, referrals are valid for 12 months from the date of submittal.

Payments and Tax Liability - If you meet the eligibility requirements of SPA’s external referral program, SPA will pay you a one-time external referral payment of up to $10,000 USD (gross) as specified on the job posting for each candidate referred that is hired. The referral must result in a successful regular full-time hire, and such referred hire:

  • Acknowledges he or she was referred by you

  • Completes 90 days of continuous, active employment with SPA

  • Is actively employed by SPA at the time the external referral bonus is to be paid

  • Was hired against an external referral program eligible position

If SPA successfully hires your referral, you must complete and return to SPA an IRS Form W-9 if in the United States or a Statement by a supplier if in Australia and any other forms SPA may require to pay the referral bonus. SPA will provide an IRS Form W-9 or a Statement by a supplier form to the referrer once the referred candidate has started employment with SPA. Gross referral amounts will be paid by SPA company check if in the US, and by direct deposit if in Australia. The gross amounts will be reported as income to the IRS on Form 1099 in the US, and to the relevant taxation authority in Australia. You will be solely responsible for paying appropriate taxes on any payment received.

Process to refer candidates - Referral information must be submitted through http://talent.spa.com/external-referral-terms-conditions and must include all requisite information.
Referrals submitted any other way, that do not include the requisite information, or that are not properly identified will NOT be eligible for this bonus incentive program.

For an External Referral to be considered complete and eligible for the program, the Referrer must provide the below at the time of your initial submission:

  • Your name and current contact information (phone number and email address)

  • The candidate’s full name

  • The candidate’s current contact information (phone number and email address)

  • Your relationship to the potential candidate

  • The job number to which you are referring the potential candidate

  • The potential candidate’s resume (and other documents, if applicable)

Additional Information and Guidelines

  • Positions qualified for the SPA external referral bonus program are listed on the external referral program page.

  • In the event that more than one external person refers the same candidate and such candidate is hired by SPA, the external referral bonus will be awarded to the first referrer based on the timestamp of submission.

  • You must reside in the United States or Australia and have a valid social security number or Tax File Number (TFN) to participate.

  • Referrals must be submitted through https://externalreferral-spa.icims.com to qualify the referrer for the bonus payment.

  • The terms and conditions of this external referral bonus program are subject to change or terminate at any time and in SPA’s sole discretion.

  • This agreement is governed by Maryland law and you agree that all disputes regarding the Program shall be submitted to final and binding arbitration in Alexandria, Virginia.

  • You agree that SPA’s total liability under this agreement for any cause of action relating to the subject matter of this agreement (regardless of the nature of such claim) is the lesser of your actual, direct damages or up to $10,000 USD, based on the actual payment amount.

  • All payments will be made in USD and will be converted to AUD, if appropriate, based on the conversion rate on the date the payment is processed.
